The Fellowship is named Jacob’s Ladder after the incident where one of the Patriarchs had a dream and then later wrestled with and had a supernatural encounter with the Living G-d. Within ‘midrash’ we see here the spiritual application of how we all once wrestled with the laws and ways of G-d until He changes us. Jacob was indeed a changed man, once he was a supplanter and now he was a child of the Living G-d. In Bereshith (Genesis) 32:30 we have here what scholars call a theophany, an appearing of Adonai Yeshua before His incarnation as the promised and expected Messiah of Yisrael. Jacob declares he has seen G-d face to face and his life is preserved and so he names the place Peniel. He has already in his dream in Genesis 28:12-17 been shown a stairway to Heaven (hence, Jacob’s Ladder) with the angels ascending and descending, and so again we have a ‘remez’, a hint or picture of how Yeshua is the Way, the Truth and the Life as our Mashiach. Not only is He the Way but He is also the Gate or Door to Heaven. (John 14:6 & 10:7)
All our meetings have a distinct Messianic flavour to them, we are neither charismatic nor cessationist but rather conservative to maintain the ‘bond of peace’ in His presence. We are awaiting the return of our Lord to set up His millennium Kingdom. Only then will Israel have real peace and be able to enjoy His physical presence as He rules from Yerushalayim, the capital of the whole world.
You will experience the peace (shalom) of the Lord and be able to express yourself in worship as we sing our hymns, psalms and spiritual songs in both Hebrew and English (Ephesians 5:19). We also have prayers and Scripture readings in Hebrew and English and the teaching of the Holy Scriptures is a major part of every meeting (1 Timothy 4:13). There is a Shabbat School for the children and refreshments are served afterwards so that everyone can enjoy fellowship together.
You will meet Jewish and Gentile believers in the G-d of Israel. They are all disciples (talmidim) which means they are followers of the Messiah or Christ, but as already mentioned our meetings have a distinct Messianic and Jewish style to them. It is the Goy, the Gentile who has been grafted into the spiritual stock of Israel and so we use a lot of Hebrew terminology. Moshiach or Messiah is used alongside Christ, they all mean the anointed one of G-d, the promised Saviour and Redeemer for all mankind. Many of our Jewish believers call themselves Messianic Jews, fulfilled Jews, or Hebrew Christians as they have become born again spiritually. They are circumcised of the heart which is a promise fulfilled in them by G-d. (Romans 2:28-29). Jews and Gentiles have therefore become as one in faith and standing before G-d as Ephesians chapter 2 clearly teaches. The term ‘the one new man’ is found in verse 15 and is shown by Sha’ul (Paul) to be the mystery of the ages found and fulfilled in Messiah.
We keep Shabbat as the first Feast of the Lord along with the other six found in chapter 23 of the Book of Leviticus (In The Form Of Love Feasts – see Acts chapters 2 and 4). There are other historical feasts that we observe like Purim and Channukah as all these ‘Feasts’ teach us prophetical and spiritual lessons about the Messiah and His people Israel. All the Feasts then teach us soteriological (salvation history events) and eschatological (end time events) within the plan and purposes of G-d.
We believe in the Holy Bible (excluding the Apocrypha) as the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of G-d, as the all sufficient rule for faith, conduct and practice in our lives. We believe in the unity of the One True and Living G-d who is the Eternal, Self-existent ‘I AM’. We believe in the fall of man through sin and that salvation is through faith in Adonai Yeshua. A full statement of our Faith and Beliefs is contained under the Beliefs page on this site.
Pastor John Young along with his wife and Jim Wroe were instrumental in setting up the Fellowship in 1992 when called by the Lord to ‘go’ to His people with the Good News of the New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31). Being a minister of G-d calls for many talents or giftings in G-d, the two main ones are a desire to minister the full counsel of the inspired, inerrant and infallible living Word of G-d and then secondly to see people’s lives changed as they come to know their Saviour, L’Adonai Yeshua HaMashiach – the Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Young has a Diploma, a Bachelor’s Degree and an M.A. in theology. He has also been awarded a F.E.T.S. & C.B. by the Professor he studied under for several years.
John is married to Marguerite who is a language teacher at Trinity Independent Christian School, in Stalybridge, Cheshire. They have a son and a daughter.
To see the promise of G-d towards His people Israel (Isaiah 49:6) and to Gentiles (Isaiah 11:10) grafted in. That they will both come to know the Messiah of Israel and of the Nations putting their faith, hope and trust in Him. To see a vibrant and caring Fellowship of believers who worship the One True and Living G-d in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23).
