An Understanding of our Faith

WHAT IS FAITH?

It is to be assured, without doubt. Heb. 11:1; 2 Tim. 1:12; Acts 10:20; Jas. 1:5—7.
It is to be confident that what God has said, is true. Heb. 11: 7, 11, 17, 19, 22, 30; Matt. 9:28; 1 John. 5:10; Rom. 4:3; 10:17; John 20:31.
It is receiving what we are offered. John 1:12—13.
It is the assurance that we have received what we have been promised. Acts 27: 25.
Faith never draws back. Heb. 10:38—39; Rom. 4:19—21; Mark. 11:24; Heb. 11:11; Tit. 1:2.
For it knows that God cannot lie. John 3:33; Rom. 4:4; John 5:24; Acts 27:22—25.
Faith is followed by confession. Rom. 10:9.
There is a faith which does not save. Jas. 2:19.
Faith which saves comes from the heart. Ps. 78:8; 118:8—9. Faith obeys. Rom. 16:26; 15:18; Acts 6:7; Gal 5:6; Heb. 11:8.
It welcomes Jesus as Lord in every department of life. John. 1: 12. And calls upon His Name. Rom. 10:13.
He who hesitates with a divided heart has not faith. Jas. 1:5—7; Acts. 10:20.
We know that God does not lie. 1 Thes. 2:13; Num. 23:19; Tit. 1:2; Heb. 6:18.
Oh, the greatness of faith! Rom. 14:23; Heb. 11:6.

HOW DOES FAITH COME? FROM GOD.

It is the gift of God. John 6:65; Rom. 12:3; 1 Cor. 12:4, 8, 9.
It comes by hearing God’s Word. Acts 4:4; Rom. 10:17; 2 Pet. 1:4; Jn. 20:31.
Christ is the source and completion of our faith. Heb. 12:2. Faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:9; Gal. 5:22. It is His gift. Eph. 2:8; Rom. 12:3; Gal. 5:22.

FROM MAN

It is received by the preaching of the Gospel. Acts 16:31—32; Eph. 1:13.
And by trusting in it. Rom. 4:19—24; Heb. 10:23.
It comes by meditating on the mercy of the Lord. Gal. 5:6. And by prayer. Luke 11:9, 11, 13; Luke 22:32.

THINGS WHICH HINDER FAITH

Seeking the praise of men (John 5:44). Desiring signs (John 4:48; 6:30).
Looking at the things which hinder, instead of keeping one’s eyes on Christ (Matt. 14:30—31). Carelessness about prayer (Matt. 17:19—21).
Refusal to obey God (John 8:45—47).
