4 PICTURES OF A MAN OF GOD.

Introduction: In these 8 verses we can see a pattern for all of us to copy. There are 4 pictures with principles for us to follow in our own life that the Lord is pointing out through the psalmist’s life.

PSALM 119:33-40.

1. He is a Sojourner – see verses 33-34.
   • His affirmation is to follow Godly direction:-
     • a) Faithfully each day – verse 33. ‘Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.’
     • b) Fully with the heart – verse 34. ‘Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law. Indeed I shall observe it with my whole heart.’

2. He is a Soldier – verses 35-36.
   • He understands:
     • a) Discipline is necessary – verse 35. ‘Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.’
     • b) Desire is also needed – verse 36. ‘Incline my heart to Your testimonies,and not to covetousness.’

3. He is a Servant – verses 37-38.
   • He knows he must be:
     • a) Discerning – verse 37. ‘Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.’
     • b) Devoted – verse 38. ‘Establish Your word to Your servant, who is devoted to fearing You.’

4. He is a Saint – verses 39-40.
   • He wants to be:
     • a) Good – verse 39. ‘Turn away my reproach which I dread, for Your judgements are good.’
     • b) Godly – verse 40. ‘Behold, I long for Your precepts (moral instructions). Revive me in Your righteousness.’
