Psalm 25 – A Plea for Deliverance and Forgiveness.

Introduction:

This psalm speaks of David’s later years as he mentions the sins of his youth – verse 7.
Further to this, we can see the very heart of the man after God’s own heart (1 Sam 13:14).
Within this psalm David writes of his faith, his conflicts, his deep repentance in some matters and the deep distress of soul he had in this – verse 11.
We can possibly see and then fit in within these verses the time when Absalom led the great rebellion against David – 2 Sam chapters 15 to 18. David writes of the craftiness and cruelty of his foes – verse 19, and Absalom as a son became a great foe and caused him much grief, pain and sorrow.
Finally, we can note that this is the second of seven Penitential Psalms (those that show repentance and a contrite heart before God). This then is the mark of any true saint for our sorrow within sin always directs and drives us to God. (1 John 1:9).
