The Great Benediction

Key Verses: Revelation 1:5-6.

And from Jesus Christ (the Messiah), who is the Faithful Witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood. And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Introduction:

The word Apocalypse which is used so often when The Book of Revelation is referred to actually means ‘unveiling’. It is an apt word for it indeed unveils the glory of the Lord Jesus in all His majestic, mighty, magnificent and marvellous power in overseeing the affairs of men and His creation, plan and purposes. His judgment throughout is holy, righteous and true.

The word Benediction means – an utterance of a blessing – and so we truly have the blessings of God towards us as He shows His grace bestowed upon us. All the glory is His forever and ever. Amen.

The phrase ‘for ever and ever’ runs throughout the Book of Revelation and this phrase literally does mean ‘to the ages of the ages’ and so we can trace this in the following chapters and verses:- Revelation 1:6; 4:9-10; 5:13-14; 7:12; 10:6; 11:15; 14:11; 15:17; 20:10; and 22:5.

Teaching:

1) THE GRACE THAT ACCRUES UNTO US – verse 5.

a) The Father’s compassionate work – “Unto to Him that loved us”

b) The Son’s cleansing work – “Washed us from our sins”

c) The Spirit’s converting work – “Made us kings and priests”

We can clearly in this verse see the Tri-Unity of the Godhead at work, the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit as One in perfect unity.

2) THE GLORY THAT ACCRUES UNTO HIM – verse 6.

a) Personal glory – “Unto Him”

b) Positional glory – “Glory and dominion”

c) Perpetual glory – “For ever and ever. Amen.”

In this verse we see that God is indeed the Father and the Son has glorified Him in finishing the work He was sent to do in redeeming us from our sins.
